Meet the Candidates Evening

Enterprising Taumarunui Inc and Rotary Taumarunui welcome the public to hear from candidates for this year’s local authority elections.

Mayoral candidates will speak for 5 minutes each. Candidates for the Ruapehu District Council and for the Taumarunui Ohura Community Board will speak for 3 minutes each.

Candidates may also present their speech in Te Reo.

Candidates for the Community Board will speak first, then the District Council (including both Māori Ward and General Ward Candidates) and then the Mayoral Candidates. The order of candidates speaking within each group will be conducted by ballot conducted by the adjudicator.

A candidate standing for more than one role may only make one presentation e.g. candidate for Council and for the Mayoralty will present for 5 minutes in English. They will not be able to speak for 3 minutes for their Council candidacy and then 5 minutes for the Mayoral candidacy.

There will be a question time at the conclusion of candidate’s speeches. Candidates will only have one minute each to answer each question.

The independent adjudicator on the night will be Robert Carter.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm on Thursday 11 September downstairs at the Cosmopolitan club, the Miriama room.
